Hello,

I just bought my first BMW a few days ago. So I don't know much at all at the moment.

I bought the 1989 325i. It is automatic. I got it certified, the mechanic had to change a few things such as the alternator, and brakes. It worked fine. I turned it on yesterday and everything was fine, didn't drive it though. Now today it won't start! I have no clue what the problem is. I hope some one can help.

It is like the car has a dead battery, however the battery is fine as everything works. When I want to start it there is nothing, I just hear a very faint hard to hear hummm. It is like there is no power. Anybody know what the problem is??? I hope it is easy to fix, I have barely driven the car.

Thanks
Matt

Have your battery charged and load tested. It takes very little power for the radio, headlamps, etc. and may appear that the battery is ok, but it takes cranking amps to start the car...big difference.

Welcome aboard Matthew, glad you found out what the issue was. Remember batteries on average only lasts a few years before they require replacing.

Thanks Tom!

Yea I will definately remember. The mechanic told me the battery is fine, he said the alernator was the problem. I guess he was wrong. Any ways, glad things worked out.

Happy to join you guys!

Please Help I Just Bought My BMW

hi guys im new to the bimmer world and after purchasing my 01 325xi i am in love, but i have several questions any help would be much appreciated

1. On the steering wheel it looks like there is a button for hands free blletooth, is that what it is? if so id love to know how to set it up and use it, i have already recieved a ticket for driving without a headset and id only need the feature whilst in the car so if the 2001 3 series support bluetooth please explain how to set it up and if it does not please inform me as to what the function of that button on the steering wheel is for...

2. when i push the button for my hazards (the triangle by the shifter and e-brake) my hazards do not go on, also the door lock button located under the button for the hazards is also not working in order to open my doors from inside the car for a passenger i have to literally pull the handle to open the doors from inside the car. my keyless entry works but as i stated i have to manually open the doors when the car is on.

3. lastly im pretty sure my car had a stock alarm system, i have the red light under the rearview mirror, but while my keyless entry works to lock and unlock everything i hear no chirp when locking the doors with the keyless, and on top of that the red light under the mirror i mentioned does no blink or function at all for that matter, any ideas or explanations, i as because i dont want to have to get another key pad and aftermarket alarm installed.

pleaee if you can help with any or all of these id be extremely appreciative

thanks for any help,

Todd

I have an 01 325Ci and it comes "wired" for Bluetooth. You would still need to have the unit installed to use it. And just because you have the red light under the rearview mirror does not mean the alarm is installed in the system. Hope this helps you a little atleast. Also you should post in the 3-Series (E46) as an 01 is an E46 seires.

^^Yup you're correct.

Believe it or not, the Hazard lights and Door lock is a very common problem. Due to wear and tear, you will need to replace that switch module. That part is around $40 from the dealer and you can definitely do that yourself.

1) Stop just adding your questions on other peoples threads!!!!! Its called hijacking and is very bad manners.

2) Your car is an e46. There is a separate forum for e46 owners where you will probably get faster and better replies.

3) Your picture in your signature is too big - it is annoying to have to scroll past it every time you make a post - resize it. Something similar to my pic is a good size.
