Well I don't know of many schools, but junior college (community colleges) don't require SAT scores. From my understanding is that people from out of California can submit their ACT scores to the University of California or California State Universities in place of SATs. When I was applying to University of California, they just wanted my SAT and SAT IIs... but then again I'm a California resident
Anyway, if you take ACT you should be ok

Actually I think they do... I have a few friends from my high school that went to tech schools and still took SAT

Alot of schools aroundthe country are starting to phase out the SAT for the ACT because of the fact that the SAT's are entirely to narrow of a test to base acceptance on. While the ACT's test for all subjects (science,english, math, and history)
Yep, SATs as of now SUCK. I think in the next few years, the SAT is going to be revamped because the University of California system doesn't like the SAT as of right now. I think the future SAT will have an essay portion and less analogy type questions. It seems harder to me but thank goodness I'm already in college
