Just bought a 94 525i. Auto, loaded, very clean, no rust, 156, 00 km. My mechanic says mint condition, well maintained. a few quirks though. Temp read out stuck at -37 c/f and headlights out of alignment. Unfortunately, no manual. Does the tranny fluid and timing chain need to be changed at some point in time. Coolant and diff fluid changed. Will appreciate your help and suggestion. Thanks

The timing chain should be fine (unless it's rattling or making noise). Most people get the chain replaced when the headgasket needs replaced.

The automatic transmission fluid is SUPPOSED to be a "lifetime fluid." ...that is complete crap. Get a new filter, and have your mechanic replace the fluid. The temperature on the OBC is a cheap part you can buy from the dealer, and it's an easy fix. Just need to find where it is (Believe it's in the grill or by the foglights).

Thanks Eric. I have read a few of yours posts and you seemed to know a lot. Appreciate your help and suggestion. Body style of your 89 525i is same as 94?
