Long time no see everybody!! Went to get the 318is running today. Filled all the fluids, replaced the battery, etc., etc...... filled coolant...... attempetd to start car........ car won't start...... car now leaking coolant............. smells like gas........ gas in coolant [scream]..... any ideas?

I was thinking the head gasket, but with the copious amount of coolant coming out, it would have to be a damn arroyo in the thing, not a crack. I didn't have my compression guage on me, so I couldn't do the test, but the car has also been sitting for a while, and started/ ran fine before I put her down for her nap. I can't imagine a crack just showing up in the block if the car hasn't been running, and I would think that if the head was that warped/ cracked, I woulda noticed something before. That and the gas thing is sorta weird????? Has anybody ever seen this shit before????? If it come to putting a new engine in it, it sure as hell won't be the M42...

That is something that had completely slipped my mind. As far as I know, it hasn't been replaced. The gas in the coolant deal has me a bit weirded out, but seeing as how I didn't have time to jack the car up and take a look, I'm hopin that it is a leaking/ cracked fuel line, or possibly one that came loose and spewed in the same direction. For the amount of coolant that came out, I'd say the little rubber demon is highly probable. I might just have to grab my buddy's S50 just in case. ;-) . Thanks for the insight. Any other probably causes would be much appreciated. Gotta know what to look for when I get her towed down here.... :-(

When my profile gasket went it dumped the entire cooling system in less than a minute. I do not remember the smell of gas so I cannot offer any advice there. Good luck!
