I've had my 2006 525xi for about two weeks - I have about 1k on it but during the week I may only drive it 5 miles a day. Usually in the morning at start up it warns of high battery drain and then if I drive it for about 10 minutes it goes away - after a long drive - 100 miles or so there's no warning the next day - the dealer explained that its coming up due to my driving style but not to worry - I'm not - anyone else experiencing this?

I think you might have a short and the battery is draining over night. Since you have had the car only a short time, you can wait to see if this continues. I would ask the dealer to put a new battery under warranty.

I had the same problem on my 06 530i and BMW NA got involved and they replaced the IBS module....PUMA case # 4859917. I have not had the problem since. Your dealer telling you that it is the way you drive is wrong. My dealer told me that they came out with a service bulletin to address the problem.

This is one fix I have seen.

The other is forthcoming. There is a software upgrade coming at the end of this month (September) for this particular problem. Here is what I have heard: supposedly the car itself and the BMW assist wake up every 20 minutes to run a self check on the car systems. When it performs this check, the battery monitoring system picks up this self check and turns the high drain lamp on in the display. The system is too sensitve as it is set up right now from the factory.

This software fix is supposed to cure this overly sensative diagnosis by the battery monitoring system. At least that is what I have been told.

I drive my 330i 3 miles one way and 3 miles back practically every day... and nothing of this sort happens. However the engine does run for a good 25 min each way. It's not the way you drive, it's a battery/electronics gadget problem.
