I was looking at AllData (recall/service bulletin service house) to help a friend with a problem. I got the following message on an Accura search. What the heck is up with that??? Trying to hide something or afraid of the truth????????

I got an email from my BMW mechanic a year or so ago. BMW was planning to stop supplying the technical information to the independent shops. I believe they changed their mind and continue to supply the information.

It seems the general trend is towards manufacturers restricting information with the justification that the complexity of the machine has increased to such an extent that a DIYer or Indy shop is not qualified to work on it. That is unfortunate, and I hope it does not continue.

It all went to shi* after the fall of Napster. [V] Soon we'll have to pay for cereal on a 'per-bowl' basis... The public is not allowed to have anything for free. Think something's wrong with your Honda? Take it in, pay for the diagnostics, listen to some BS, and be on your way.

Nobody likes an educated consumer. [duh]

I don't mind paying for service, service manuals, etc. But it seems as though they are trying to now CONTROL and possibly make a PROFIT CENTER out of Recalls, Advisories and the like.

That's just wrong.
