My new 530iA is sucking fuel like crazy.

Granted it has about 700 miles on it & some additional mpg can be expected, but I think it's a bit excessive.

I'm getting about 23mpg on the road & 16mpg in town (Or less).

average is 21mpg at best.

I'm driving quite light-footed on purpose!

My old 200 Maxima did 18/25, easy, & without going easy. It got a consistant avg. ov 23mpg.

My 540iA does 21 plus on the highway and 17-19 on mixed driving.
My previous e34 540iA used to do 22-24 on the highway and 18-19 on mixed driving.

Looks like your 6cylinder sucks more juice than the V8s!

Mikev,

Your 325 sounds about right, but 28 for the e34, if you are not mistaken, is very good! But then you were doing 75mph. The 21.something mpg I got from my car was just recently on a 900 miles trip total, and I was doing average 85 to 95, with ocassional aggressive passing from lane to lane, you know those idiots who go 70 on the fast lane on a 3 lane highway!? And everybody thinks they are fast and want to use the fast lane, the slow lane sometimes is all open...makes you wonder.

My old Nissan Sunny 2.0l diesel done 36 mpg towing the boat, and 66-70mpg without the boat.
Is that true??? 66-70mpg sounds unbelievable! I am skeptical...sounds more like consumption figure for a scooter!

Ah! just a thought here, I'm using the Imperial Gallon at 4.5liters as aposed to the US Gallon.
66mpg for the 2.0l Nissan Sunny was a normal figure we used to calculate fuel use for going on trips normaly we got more than that out of her.
On a side note, When I lived in Wick in the far north of Scotland fuel was (and is) very expensive, when the diffrence got to be 10p per liter it was cheaper for me to drive the 109 miles to Inverness to fill up the tank than to get the fuel in Wick! The break even point was at about 1/2 a tankfull and was taking into account the drive of 218 miles there and back tho not my time.
