Hey all, was wondering if anyone knew of any options that I may have for this problem. I have a problem with speeding, and since i own an M3 this makes it even worse

http://66.98.136.52/DPS.pdf

this is what I received in the mail on Saturday, I was wondering, is there a way that I can goto another state and get a license, just say that I am going to move there or something like that?

i have too many speeding tickets, and they are going to take my license.. I will be suspended for 90 days..

I am not going to stop speeding of course, But would definitely like to find a way out of this (get a license in another state)

Any advice or help in this matter is greatly appreciated

get a k40, my mom has one installed on her car. They cost about 1700.00, but they really work. I pick up cops long before my passport 8500 will. The only radar detector that can be compared will it is the val-1.

I dont think you can get a license in another state unless you have residence their. Normally they ask that you bring some kind of a bill to prove your residency.

I suggest you get a lawyer unless you pleaded guilty to the 4 mentioned speeding tickets. Either way I would still call a lawyer and tell him the situation see if he can pull something off for you, your insurance must be through the roof. [xx(] The DMV's are all linked by computer, I doubt another state will give you a license with this record. (could be wrong) Like the others suggested above, a good radar detector could have avoided this. Also, following my "speeding guide" which illustrates why blatant speeding will eventually end with you taking the bus.
Good Luck...

Won't do any good if you were caught by laser though. Do they use laser in TX?

I had a friend who sold his M3 b/c he got too many speeding tickets. You are so tempted to speed in that car.

I'm 99% sure that all states now have an agreement to share license data. So even if you did set up a residence in another state, they will pickup the suspension and probably reject your application.

If I read it correctly you get a 90 day suspension. If you challenge in court and lose, they can make it up to a year! What a way to discourage challenges!!!

My suggestions:
- Take the 90 day suspension, 1 year would suck.
- Use the time to think about speeding, next time you will lose it for a year or more.....
- Get a radar detector and speed wisely, not foolishly
- Better yet, go drag racing, or SCCA racing at a track where it's legal. It's A LOT more fun when you can drive to the limit and not worry at all. It'll also make you a better driver.

FWIW, this is not a lecture, I also was driving too fast too frequently. I had two close calls, including doing 85 in a 55 zone (5 AM no traffic except the cop and he let me go on a warning!!Whew!!) Now I do it in competition and the urge to street race or speed is a lot less.

The k40 works very well with laser, most of the cops in my town use them. I was doing 45mph in a 25 zone. The cop said he clocked my at 32, and let me go. The K40 is supposed to make it difficult for the cop to get an accurate reading, by the time he gets one on you. You have already slowed down. It "buys" you more time to slow down when it goes off. It picks radar signals up faster than anything I have ever used. I have used the 7500, 8500 passport, solo 1, and solo 2 and have used the Val one in my dads cars. I thing the Val one and the k40 are the best. I would like to get rid of my passport and get a Val one. The K40 unit is too expensivce for me.($1700.00).

Hahahah. Too funny dude, thanks for posting the notice :). I was hoping it would be a photo radar showing you blow by at 150 or something *grin*.

Anyway, I've had my Valentine 1 for 11 years and have only gotten 2 tickets -- paced once and the other time he instant-onned the guy in front of me and determined visually we were going the same speed. Funny that both were in Texas. Now, I am a habitual speeder, but I usually do it "smartly" which may have something to do with my low number of tickets.

I agree with the lawyer option. At the least you'll probably get your suspension delayed, at best it will go away.

Go Valentine 1!!!

Sorry to hear about this. You cannot get a license in a certain state unless you reside in that state for most of the year. When you received these speeding tickets, did you just pay them and move on, or did you actually try to fight them? Also, do you have a radar detector? Don't bother with K40, it's a waste of money and an utter piece of shit. It was good like 10 years ago, now it's like having a 486 CPU in a world of Pentium 4's and Athlon 64's (not really, actually but it truly is a piece of shit).
Invest in a Passport 8500 or Valentine 1 and show up at the court date with a lawyer. Do you need your car for transportation (to get to work, etc.) or is it just for pleasure?

I have had good experiences with the K40. I am not an expert on radar detectors, but the K40 has saved my ass more than my passport 8500. Yes it is very over priced, but I feel that it works. Now my father on the other hand hates the K40, he got a ticket with it.

nah i have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma and an older model 1983 mercedes 300TD. Im waiting to goto court on these, and should know something soon. thanks for all the responses and such

appreciate all the advice. K40 says they will pay the tickets.. dunno aout that.. also I got these tickets and paid them etc, but i think there is a error somewhere. i have filed for the court to prove me guilty, they may make it harder on me but oh well.

When you pay the ticket, you automatically plead guilty in court. Just so you know for the future, when you get a speeding ticket, hire a traffic attourney and take it to court. When you fight it with a lawyer, you can usually get rid of the points for a bit of a higher fine.

What are your speed limits like?

We have 65 and 75 here and I-15 from LV and LA often runs 85 on average. I don't think many tickets are written until 80 on local freeways, or so I hear. A HP officer told me that they are often too busy with 100+ people on I-15 to worry about much else.

I admit, I would be afraid to go one mile over in Texas.
