it pulls straight off doesn't it?? I'd just pull real hard.

Mine used to fall off when i shifted, finnally a said screw that and bough a cheap aftermartket one at advanced or something. Cheapest one i could find. Its black and fake carbon fiber. Looks kinda nice actually. And it made my shift shorter becasue it didn't stick up as high. I have to tighten the hex screws once in a while though but whatever.

Anyway, they just clip in i think, pull it off. Maybe you should wait for someone to confirm this. I have a 1991 325i. thats what mine was.

by the way, what is an SE?

Yea just pull up on it. Mine comes off a lot too, now it's on pretty good but the shift pattern thing on the top fell out -- just need some glue to fix that!!

I tried to yank it off but its on there REALLY tight. It sounds like im taking the piss but it feels like im going to pull the whole lot out of the gearbox (not just the knob). Or am im just being a bit overprotective and should just go for it? (I reserve the right to vent my frustrations here if it goes wrong :) )

i don't know if you are being over protective, maybe its different in england.

Maybe yours is a a screw off knob.... try twisting it counter clockwise... i don't know...
