I want to learn German . . . whats the best way?

#1
I am still in highschool (junior) and they don't offer any German language classes, BASTARDS! I took french for 4 years but I'm not crazy about it. I would like to learn German instead but I have no idea where to start... Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that German should be a lot easier for English speaking people to learn because English is a Germanic language and has the same syntax, unlike spanish, french or italian, right?

So, how should I go about this?

German is pretty easy best thing to do id what i did. My germans fairly poor but i know enough to get by and it improves with each visit. i did it for 2-3 years at school if you go for the tapes or even a language collage it'll help (all most want to be able to do is speak and read) --I can read it great but not speak too well. id do the tapes for a year or so then visit for a summer vacation for 2 or 3 weeks then possibly go on an exchange to really get into think

treadman, don't you dare to tell them how you pay me [mad] [rofl]

i would like to be at your service of course, but i am no teacher at all and have not the least concept of teaching a language. we can start with something of course. in the european forum is a thread "to all the germans" i post in german there. it is fairly new but i will go on posting there for another guy who wants to improve. read through that post and participate. i think that is a start right?

1. Learn how to pronounce the alphabet first - BMW is BAY EM VAY and U is pronounced Oooo
There are a few letters in addition to ours. One is the Ess-Tset like this --> ß
It is basically SS . So below the word Gruß is pronounced grewss

2. Try it - say this traditional greeting to every German you meet:
Gruß Gott! Ihre Mutter ist eine häßliche Kuh. [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

3. Start off with this German tutorial from Deutche Welle:

ya check amazon.com for some books or tapes, maybe a video...all beginner stuff.
once u have the basics down, you have to speak to a local yocal and read books...
of course u'll need a dictionary.

or u can just pay a private tutor to do it for u.

Learning the alphabet is the first step. I thought BMW was BAY EM FOW...but I might be wrong.

The best way to learn the language is to take a class. If you cannot do that, then you might want to find someone who knows German (a hot chick in particular). Tapes are good, but it's tough to learn how to read and write from listening. It all depends what you want in the long run, and what you want immediately.

English is a combination of French, German, and Old English. Some of German is very similar to English whereas some of it is totally different. German is tough because you'll have a word with 7 consonants in a row, and you need to be able to make a sound for each and every one of them. German is more of a throaty language as well. It'll make you laugh when you hear some of the noises you need to make. All languages are like that, though. [:I]

Are you sure about that? [confused]

I remember my teacher always saying she wanted a BAY EM FOW. She wasn't that great of a teacher, though.

Wadula? Ruling please?
