I have a 1987 325is with 181000 miles

After successfully replacing my throw-out bearing and clutch assembly (Thank you BMW board for helping me diagnose my problem), the battery was unplugged long enough to reset the ECU. Now when the engine is cold it will sometimes die at idle, or at least idle below 500 rpm. It starts and runs just swimmingly, but until it reaches running tempuratures it idles poorly.

I have heard that this is a common problem of motronic 1.1 and that an upgrade to motronic 1.3 fixes this problem with simple plug and play installation and with more engine service codes.

Is this true, are there any downsides to this remedy or any better options.
