Ok this is getting rediculous

My car wont starty if you let it sit for like a day or so.

It has something to do with the fuel pump relay. When I hook a voltage meter up to the transfer pump power line and try to start, i get no power. If i bypass the relay with a paper clip, I get full power and the car will start up no problem.

Broken relay?? Wrong, I swap relays, same thing, If i **** with the relays enough it once and a while will start with a relay.

Wtf is my car doing, im am so pissed off I need to sell it so bad.

If it’s not the relay maybe there is a malfunction with the circuit board that the relay is connected to. I know that sometimes fuse boxes have to be replaced because of deterioration.

BTW Please don’t destroy one of the coolest cars around. [driving2]

Its not in the fuse box

Question

Does the fuel pumps turn on when the car is in assesory?
Would it be bad to have them run a long time without the engine on?

Unless someone has another Idea, I think the wires between the ignition and relay are burnt. The relays dont even "turn on" when they are suppsoed to. Im thinking of rigging up a relay for the relay off the ascessory wire from my deck

a lot of cars do a pre pump. It turns on the fuel pump for a few seconds in the on position but not the accessory position. (a few seconds to build it up to a certain pressure) then when you hit start it turns it back on and stays on if it starts. I don't think it is great for it to run without the car on. could get too much pressure and mess things up.

could be a sensor for the pressure. I believe Haynes has some decent troubleshooting for the fuel system.

I think It might be the battery, I may have a draw. I noticed when I jump the car it starts right up all the time. But If i turn it off and restart a bunch it wont start. Would this make sense? Just the batter dosnt have enough power to start it? The engine will turn and stuff but I never hear my pumps kick in.

Whenever i see an E30 in a poor state of being, I leave a note for the owner on the windshield inquiring about purchase options. I think towing i would be GTA. However, if you do decide to tow it, don't call me from prison. =)

The problem you have is fatal for the car. Nobody will buy it with that problem. Tell ya what - I'll take it off your hands for free. [rofl]

Seriously,

Broken relay?? Wrong, I swap relays, same thing, If i **** with the relays enough it once and a while will start with a relay.
This really says that it is either the relay, or the relay socket, or the circuit board, as ghost suggested. Think about it - if it was a bad battery, how would messing with the relays make the battery better?

Makes sense Kirby, except for one thing. If it was the relay, the relay socket, or the circuit board, why would jump-starting it help? I'm not saying you're wrong, merely asking if the diagnostics really point to those things mentioned.

more power to bridge whatever bad connection exists. Just a little more juice to make the relay work.

I don't think a new battery would be a good fix, unless you get a deisel battery or something. If you get an new normal battery i don't it would be a permanent fix. (then again a more powerful deisel battery may not be a permenent fix either.) The source is bad connection somewhere, you'd have to find it and fix it for permanent fix or battery for temp fix.

honestly i had a toyota that wouldn't start because of some stupid relay so i put the battery from my diesel jetta in there and it started right up. I left it in there and it worked for the life of my crappy camery.

hope you find something that works!

Im going to rip out the board and re solder the connections and see what that does. Seems to be working pretty good since I charged the battery up all the way.
