First of all, i have a 97 528 with about 120K. In the morning or whenever i didnt start the engine for more than 12 hours, it seems reluctant to start. Its gasp and seems like all the cylinders are not hitting. Then after about 5 seconds, its smooth again. Is there a problem happening? What can it be? My fuel injectors? It seems like the engine isnt gettiing enough fuel or oxygen or both. Anyone experience this before?

Thanks, I apreciate every response

A possible problem judging from the miles could be dirty valves. Adding Chevron Techron before a fill up should help. If not, another possible problem could fuel filter replacement. If the filter is clogged the fuel pump has to build up to operating pressure, which could be a reason why it seems reluctant to start, plus it puts more strain on the pump. Just my $.02

Timing chain...no belts, if I'm not mistaken.
Shit my bad... chain, sorry. If it has never been changed and 120k miles are on it, may be time to change it. I think theyre somewhere around $200 - 300.

I have a 2001 525i and the same thing happened to me one morning. I had not driven the car for about a week, and it sputtered for about 10 seconds and then cleared out. It has not happened since.
