Question on increased redline

I am thinking about getting a Conforti reprogrammer for my 97' M3, but it says it increases the redline from 6500 to 7000. I am concerned this will damage the internals of the engine, (gaskets, piston rings, etc.) Should I be worried about this, or what should I be worried? It is an automatic, will the reprogrammer affect the different modes of the transmission? Also, will this disable the govorner or how can I disable it? [bmwkick]

Usually, the chip will disable the electronic governor. I can't speak for your case specifically, but I'm sure it will tell you in the description if you look again. As for the increased rev limiter, I agree with you, I wouldn't feel very comfortable about a chip that raises my rev limiter without my permission. It should be pretty safe as Jim C. has a strong history with BMW's but at the same time you're the one who gets screwed if your engine gets 0wned due to the higher redline. The chip should not affect the transmission's programming unless it specifies that it will.

it will take it, 7k seems like a lot, but its a BMW inline 6, so there is no doubt in my mine that it will take it. I chipped my E30 and the redline is now at 6900 and i have 139000 miles and it runs like a champ

i too have had my rev limiter raised, although i've yet to try it out =]
its there, "just in case"

they should make an auto version that keeps the stock limiter on there

a chip with a switch eh? stock power and redline, then with the push of a button, 15 more ponies and +500 RPM, me likey. although there is a similar product for diesel trucks, its made by Banks and is called the 6 shooter: 6 power level increases with the turn of a knob, with the first level being the stock level.

will not damaged your engine. If your engine does not have other mods than the extra redline does not help that much. Add a higher flowing intake, intake manifold, and exhaust then the extra rpms will be worth it. check my mods on my profile.

Ya, I'm planning on many more mods in the future, but I'm here in Cali, so I'm a bit restricted as far as exhaust and such due to the strict emissions standards. Also, this is just my first M3, so I figure in a few years I will be trading this one in for an E46. Those extra 93 ponies would sure feel nice.

My 91 318is had a Confortti chip and I frequently bumped the new higher redline limit. The car had 140+k on her when sold and ran beautifully. My 98 M roadster has been Dinan OBCII modified with the redline raised, which I also bump on every once in a while and I have had zero problems. My dealer has even worked on the car before the warranty expired and never said a word. Stock most cars are limited well below what they are capable of.

I have not had a BMW serviced at a dealer since moving to Washington. I used Camp BMW in Spokane when I lived in Idaho. I have bought parts at both Fife and Seattle, I like Seattle better, it's just harder to get to!
