What you are saying has some truth to it. I know for certain that BMW ported engine noise into the cockpit via some sort of duct system. I saw this on a Speed Channel test drive of the Z4 and the statement was made by a BMW NA representative. He said that it was the first car that they know of that this was intentionally done to provide audible engine feedback to the driver. Unfortunately, he didn't mention anything about if or how to adjust it.

I didn't know about BMW making that adjustment for more engine feedback in the cockpit... My car is fairly quiet, although it does sound pretty nice and growling with the top up.

My question is why would you want more engine noise in the car with you? I wish my car had a more throaty sound that was more audible to those outside the car, but if it won't improve that noise why do you want more in the cab?
