Really happy! It looks so much better than the titanium one that came with the car (last pic is how the car came). Ordered it on Friday from Crevier BMW, it was shipped on Monday and it arrived today. Just thought I would share [wave]

Thanks Dan & Jack.

It was really, really easy to install. All you have to do is insert to "key fob" in the slot and press the start/stop button. DON"T step on the brake pedal, or the engine will start. Now the ACC power will be on, and you can put the gear lever in D without the engine running. With both hands, and with lots of force...pull the old knob straight up (don't hit yourself in the teeth!!). Then put the new wood lever on the stub and push down, and finish the last 1/4 inch or so with a pounding fist or rubber mallet.

The old straight up method, I know several people who have busted themselves in the mouth doing this, myself included. When the cars and knobs are new and fresh they take a lot of upward force...Ouch!

That looks really seksy, Adam. When I first saw pics of your interior, I never questioned the aluminum shift knob for a second, but now that I see it installed, I wonder why the car does not come like that!

Danke Emile! I didn't really question the metal shift knob at first either, but then I saw a picture of my E46 330cic that had the walnut shift knob. Once I found out that it was an available part for my car, I had to have it. Funny that such a small item, can make the interior look so much better.

How did your Biology test go? Know your score yet, or at least have a good feeling about your performance? Biology blows, as does all Science for me. I am an old fashioned English, Deutsch, Spanish and humanities kind of guy [drinking]

Yeah for sure, the walnut shift knob is instany better-looking than the aluminum. As for the Bio exam, it went pretty well (no result back yet, though). I'm glad I'm not a Biology major so I'm done with that crap.

Deutsch that looks ten times better. The aluminium one really did stick out like dogs balls; I'm not really sure why they put it there in the first place...

I also couldn't help but notice that BMW have changed the up/downshift direction on the steptronic gear-lever. In yours, to get the next gear you pull the lever back, and to downshift you push it forward. That is much better IMO. In our E38, it's the other way around. Amazing huh!

That looks really good... I'm thinking of getting one if it's available for my Dad's E60, it also has the aluminium gear lever which is scratched now... the matching wood looks a lot better.

The E46 Steptronic is also back to upshift and forward to downshift, I guess they changed it after the 7 Series?

I thought the E46 3-Series were like that also, along with the E39 5-Series and the E60 5-Series. The M3 with SMG is like that, using the shift knob in the middle. In the M3 it makes sense, but in all the auto tranny cars, I'd rather have it the other way around.

Hey there Petey!! Long time no chat. I'm pretty confident that the only reason they put the metal shift knob is to save $$$. Just like when the E60 came out, and lots of us were bitching about how cheap a lot of the materials felt. Funny, that for 2006, the E60 5er has been redone inside, and the materials are really, really good. Doesn't BMW get it yet?? Do it right the first time, and not only will it be cheaper in the long run, but there will be no bad press about cost cutting materials. The automotive world is still needing us Pete, to show them how things need to be done [cheers]

Thanks Adrian. Yeah, they have one for the E60 too. Just pick up a 2006 accessories brochure (they will work on the 2004 and 05 E60 as well). The brochure will show what knobs are available, provide the list price, and also the part # for ordering. Since the E60 has been out for a while now, there are tons of OEM parts on Ebay for sale. You can save tons of $.

Been banging you knee today on your "secret compartment"? [?|]

Of course mate, we could show these clowns a thing or two... I haven't had much time to grace these pages recently as work is flat out. I'm trying to save money to travel in Europe next year. Oh, and I got tickets to see two Aussie games at the World Cup. Yes, that's right, the WORLD CUP! Any of you boys gonna be over there June/July?

Sorry to hijack your thread Adam...
