Well, my door trim finally became unglued yesterday, it was very embarrassing driving around in a $60k car with the trim dangling down the side of your shoulder[:(!]. I know this is a very common problem with the 3-Series/M3 but didn't think it would happen to me[?|]. Thank goodness for warranty, hopefully I will get an X3 loaner again or even the new 3-Series [^] .

BMW really ought to get all the M3's in and make a complete repair on these before they loose customers. If I owned a company and knew that a high quality product was going to fail on a customer, I'd like to think I would call my customers and tell them to come in when they can and we will fix this error before it happens.

I agree..I've already ran into a starting/smg problem on my new '05 m3. Never expected something to happen..at least not this soon.

Well I took my baby in today so they can check the rear brakes in addition to the door trim. At least a got a free X3 loaner out of it. [:)]

Hey Tom, what's wrong with the brakes? Are they worn-out or is there a noise you hear?

My M is going in on Tuesday for a scratching sound coming from my driver's side rear. In my case it actually created groove in the rotor. [?|]

Gabe,

I'm hearing noise from the rear driver side as well. It only happens after I disengage the e-brake and put the car in reverse or drive off slowly. Last time I had them checked, my brakes were 80% good.

How are you getting the noise?

EXACT same issue here. Same wheel & criteria... Exactly the same. I brought mine in the 1st time for this issue maybe 2 weeks after I bought the car. They inspected the brakes and said everything was good. After getting back home from a week long trip to the east coast, I looked over my car and noticed a groove in the driver's side rear rotor.

Where are you having the service done?

BMW of Austin, I'll keep you posted if they find any problems with the brakes.

This sounds like the problem I was having with the grinding sound. They changed the rear differential fluid, but it came back (off and on) later. When I took it back later they could not replicate the problem (breaks were good) and it hasn't happened since. They told me to keep an eye on it and let them know.....

The problem sound like how you described Tom, but mine would do as well when I made a slow turn (going left) around a corner. Like when you start off from a stop sign/stop light taking a left turn going low speeds. It was a load grinding noise. The dealer thought it may be a rock stuck between the rotor and break dust shield, but it wasn't.....

Thanks Tom. PM me if you think of it. [cheers]
Responded to your PM Gabe, figured I'd post it here as well just in case someone else had the same problem.

Well, I had it checked out and they said it was normal for it to do that on occasions. That's because the rear driver side brake is where the ebrake engages. The tech said that sometimes the spring will be slow in releasing, but overall should not affect the wearing of the brakes. However if the rear brakes continues to grind after a lengthy period then you should take it in.
