Intermittent Head-Light Problem (Xeon)

I'm having trouble with my passenger side light Sometimes it won't light up. When I have the problem, if I turn the car off then restart it, the light will usually ignite. I've got service next week for this, the door speaker rattle and an oil change but I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into this sort of problem.

I'm wondering if this intermittent thing is a precursor to the the light going out for good... [scratch]

Thanks,
Gabe

There was a fairly irate guy complaining of the same problem. I think bmw fixed it but he was seeking legal action via the lemon laws. I'm sure they'll fix it the first time. Probably just a bad ballasts.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, probably just a ballast or loose connection. I just hope they don't say something like, "Well, it's working now..."

Thank you. Odly enough, it worked for a week or so until this morning when is failed to ignite again. I have oil service in 2 weeks and have advised my service dept of this issue.

I had the problem several months ago with the passenger side. It was intermittent, too. Dealer replaced the ignitor. Fine ever since. Driver side acted up once last week. Again, probably a bad ignitor. 03 M3 coupe

the speaker rattle is a problem i am having as well, first time i took it to the dealer rtghey put a new speaker in, next time a new amp and some insulation. Unfortuently i cant say that the problem is gone, its intermittent, and comes from both sides. Personally i tihnk its the speaker cover that rattles with even the lightest base. I am trying to muster the energy to go back to the dealer and see what we can try next

let me know if you get yours fixed, what they or you do.

Is this person really from BMW???? I've always wondered this, because how whould they have any idea how to contact you? How can they be "in touch with you soon" if they don't know who you are? I find it hard to believe that BMW's interface with customers is through private messaging.

Has anyone been contacted successfully by this person?

Rofl, I know exactly what you mean.

gpoints, I don't have a BMW, but recently I was having a similar problem to yours with my left Xenon headlight. Whenever I would hit bumps, it would flicker and then if I hit a bump again, it would shut off. But as soon as I turned the lights off, and then back on, the left Xenon would fire back up as if nothing was wrong (but then would go off again after hitting a few more bumps). I resolved the issue by accessing the the left headlight. I unplugged the ballast, and re-adjusted this one yellow wire (it was like tightly twisted up), made sure the bulb was firmly in place, and plugged the ballast back in and basically checked to make sure everything was firmly "seateD". Closed everything up and that seems to have resolved the problem. So what I could have said in about a secntence, but decided to type up a whole paragraph instead was, the ballast might be loose and/or some wiring might need to be "readjusted."

Good point. [idea]

We'll see what the dealership says next week.

I have to admit, I too was skeptical after thinking about it but...

about an hour ago, I was contacted by BMWNA about my issue. I was given contact information in the event the dealership has any trouble when they look into the problem. [:)]

I guess I deserve it for trying to give Tom a hard time. [:D]
Well this board is so civilized (which is what makes it great) we sometimes need to stir it up. Tom needs to be given a hard time at times just so he knows how much we care. [;)] [thumb]

It is pretty good if this is what we call giving a hard time is all about.

Couldn't agree more.
