Is it worth it? And what is it?

I posted about a month back about problems and it hasn't resolved yet.

Basically, it sounds like my spark plugs are misfiring, causing a hard rattle and shake in the engine. Last week I pulled the spark plugs to replace them, there was oil in the first two compartments.

After replacing them, I'm still getting the knocking and stalling out in idle.

It's suggested it may be a head gasket.

It's a 91 525i with 186k miles. Is it really worth the effort to replace it? It was bought for $2500.

I'm in a tight situation here...I gave my Cherokee to my little sister, and my dad gave me this car. I really got screwed--my sister won't let me have my Cherokee back, and I'm without a decent working car. (my job depends on travel; I'm in sales)

Any thoughts?

It's your valve cover gasket. When it leaks, it can leak oil into the spark plug area. When this happens it usually swells the bremi plug rubbers, so you will need to replace your bremi plugs.

The valve cover gasket is pretty easy to replace. DIY for less than $100, the bremi plugs are more expensive, but I have never had to replace them so I don't know the cost.
