Is it worth the extra $5000 for the 330i?

Hi

I was thinking about getting either a new 325i or 330i. I will test drive them both tmw. But as far as I know, a lot of magazine's are saying that the 325i gives more value. There's only a moderate gain on the 330i but its not worth the extra $5000. U can spend that on aftermarket stuff that will match the 330i's performance and still hv change left.

Prix is not issue for me, but I just want some feedback based on yr perspectives. I m a speed freak but do most of my driving in the city. I currently hv a WRX. How's the low end grunt on the 325i?

Coming from a WRX, you will cry inside a 325i, GO WITH THE 330i!

You won't regret it or ever look back...there's like a whole second difference between the two car's accelerations (I believe).

Not to mention you get the upgraded items that totally account for the $5000 price gap. Why buy aftermarket when it can come stock? You end up spending the same in the end anyway.

Like I said, world of a difference, get the 330i especially since price is not a factor for you!

Dude get the faster motor, especially coming from a WRX. You don't know how many times we get people signing up on this forum saying "Hey I just got a BMW XXX, how can I make it faster?"

Spend the money now for the extra power that will save you time and money, and you'll be covered under warranty if anything goes wrong.

Remember that more standard features come with the 330i like Xenon (w/angel eyes). A similarly equipped 325i is only $4k less. I would definitely pay extra for the 330i.

Aftermarket upgrades will not really help, and may indeed
hurt, your resale value.

Go with the 330, if you can afford it.

Get the 330i. Once you factor in the std. features that comes with the 330i & the faster and smoother engine...the 330 is completly worth it. I actually never even considered the 325 (coming from an M3, the salesman told me I would cry in a 325i [:)]

P.S.

just remember BMW is dropping the 325i and the 330i. In the next 6 months or so, it will be 328i and 335i. Multiple dealerships have confirmed this, and memos from BMW have "leaked out"

Interesting, so will we be seeing a 328Ci and a 335Ci? :)

That fact further confirms the pic I had posted of the 335i coupe with the rear revealed.

No, it's not worth it but...

is a BMW worth it's price? (Think point A to point B and decent cars like the V6 Honda Accord at 244hp.) Not to most. But we're the lunatic fringe and you'll find yourself wanting (or wondering about) the 330i. It's rediculous (the 325i 3.0 almost seems detuned at 215hp and 184 ft lbs of torque) --- it might be an emissions averaging tool as well as a marketing tool. A modern 3.0 should be about 225hp and 215ft lb. The 330i at 255hp and 220 ft lb is a great 3.0. (IMHO is should be a 3.3 or 3.5.) [:)]

Dude I was actually surprised you could deal with going from an M3 to a 330i. My lease ends in November and I'm definitely not taking any step backwards in terms of 0-60 and 1/4 mile acceleration.

Honestly Emile, it was not hard at all, especially living in the heart of Hollywood. Without joking, if I hit 35mph in the city, I feel like I am racing. I miss the M3, especially the Interlagos Blue..but I almost never got to use the power and handling. The SMG was great, but now having a Steptronic...I now realize how jerky, tempermental the SMG was.

My E90 feels really, really fast. Unless I am going up a very steep canyon, I haven't even missed the power of my M3.

love the 330

I just got a alpine white 330i, I test drove numerous cars during the past year getting ready to get this new WHIP. I believe many other cars are coming out with more competetive cars as far as enginework and performance in that department for a fraction of the cost of a bmw. The true definition of a BMW is the smoothness of the engine and the ride. Some of the serious competitors I found were the 2006 infiniti G35 coupe, the 2006 lexus IS350, the audi A4t, and mercedes clk320. After driving all these cars I realize that speed is never the factor, the stats of a cars performance are really irrelivent to the ride of the car. The IS350,G35 AND clk are same speed if not faster. But.... after test driving these cars each at least 3 times, and driving my friends g35 ungentlmenlike, haha I really found that the other cars were fast, but the feeling of going fast in a complete lap of luxury is thirlling itself. I never felt that in any of the other cars. not to the point I felt in my 330i. ITS COZY, YET ROOMY, ITS FAST, YET SMOOTH. I LOVE MY CAR...

Yeah that's the thing...automatic is way better for normal driving. The transmission shifts so quickly and smoothly, so you get up to speed very fast....even in my car, when I accelerate normally, minivans and all other auto cars get up to speed much faster than I do.

[driving] I will have to disagree with you there. I will never buy a car with automatic. The real feeling of the motor and the road is found while driving a manual.
