Yep it has a govenor. I believe it is set to 118 mph. If you buy a high performance chip for your ECU it will remove the top speed limiter.

if you removed the governer, and want to push it to the top speed, make sure your tires can handle the higher speed. (car manufacs usually limit the top speed around the stock tire's speed rating.)

My e30 318iS doesn't have a govener(got it up to 130mph and it could have still gone). 118mph could be just the highest speed due to gears or the engine.

Nadroj, the 318is and the 325i all have a higher top speed then the 325e. I dont know if the 318is has a govenor or not, I havent owned one yet. According to my owners manual the 325i/is all had a top speed of 133mph. Techincally the 325e would go faster then the 325i or 318is... the ETA has a lower gear ratio at 2.93 and the "I" models have a gear ratio of 3.73(?) I think. However the "I" engines will rev a lot higher then teh ETA engine. Not only that the ETA doesnt have the power to make the car go as fast the the "I" cars.

There is a lot of different computer chips for the ECU you can buy. Just look an ebay. The Jim Comforti or however its spelled is the best, atleast tahts what lots of people say. I dont have a chip yet. You cannot make any other engine mods to make teh car go faster.... the governor is in the computer chip.

The e30 91 318is does have a top speed limiter (as I believe all BMW's do), it is set at 205km/h or 127.38 mph. With speedometer error Jordan you were most likely right at your top speed. With a JC Chip in my 91 318is I was clocked with a radar gun at the track at 135 mph. I felt like the car had more but I had hit the "wall", due to aerodynamics and I had a splitter on the front air dam.

According to "The Complete Book of BMW" your 91 325i had a top speed limiter of 220 km/h, or 136.7 mph.
hmm i'm pretty sure the onwers manual said 123 and thats about where it stopped.... Then again my memory is not the most reliable source of info haha.
