Poor, poor Land Rover, truly pathetic. Yeah Mercedes-Benz! It seems they're finally getting their shit together, and beginning to build cars, that are one again "Engineered unlike any other". Gottlieb Daimler & Karl Benz are resting better now [;)]

BMW had better realize that Mercedes is now direct competition once again. Let the games begin!!!

in my opinion, bmw aesthetics has been going up, but build quality HAS been going down... they've forgotten things they did RIGHT in the late 90's/ early 2000's- ie when a simple design works, stick with it. they're becoming like Honda and don't know how to leave good enough alone and start trying to re-invent the wheel on things that don't need it- specifically electrical systems. hopefully they'll get it together and get back on top soon...

I can't believe BMW is ranked that low. Another shocker is Mazda, I thought they would at least do better than Saturn. [hihi]

Hang on gang. BMW QUALITY IMPROVED compared to their last year number!

In 2006 BMW had 142 defects, this year they had 133., about a 7.5% decrease in defects!!!!!!!

Their RANKING compared to other manufacturers may have slipped, but TOTAL DEFECTS ARE DOWN = BUILDING BETTER QUALITY CARS THAN LAST YEAR.

remember the 3er is still fairly new and with the practicly brand new twin turbo 335 of course there is going to be more problems with those cars in the first few years of production, not to mention the new x5 and x3 just came out (as we all know first year cars are the worst when it comes to problems)

That article says brake dust (yuppie and feminine owners want high performance, without having to shine their wheels), cup holders (so obese americans can fit supersize drinks and coffees), and I-Drive (even the new system is incomprehensible to the average user, a sad day) resulted in BMW dropping far down in quality. I wonder if any of those surveyed would think twice before complaining about such asinine things, if they were ever broken down in Los Angelos, South Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, or the South Bronx of NYC, then maybe they'll have a day to remember and a legitimate complaint.

I was about to say, don't they consider a "silly design" to be a defect, and let us not forget that the more technology and electronics something has, the greater chance the user is incapable of properly operating it, as well as a greater chance for a component to fail.

Look at Ford and its bland cars, they are hardly known for top tier quality. Also the day Porsche beats Lexus tells you something is skewed. Chevrolet even ranks higher, I guess when the car consists of a 15k shell and the only electronics are a radio w/ cassette player and A/C, chances are nothing will go wrong.

You have to admit that the BMW auto trans fall apart left and right. [driving2]
And Japanese car window motors work forever, but the Bimmers' fail in a few years. Hmmmm, what else? The radiators burst without warning, but Japanese makers' take years to crack and most give a leaky warning. [target][rolleyes]
