This weekend I was in Savannah, GA. Which is about 25 minutes from my house. I had to go run some errands in sav. I was on my way home, while sitting at the light on Waters Ave and Mall Blvd. I was first at the light and I see a very late model camaro in the #2 lane. All I know was that this Camaro had SS 396 emblems on it Must have been a 67 or 69 year model. I have no clue if he had a 396 ci, or not. But lets cut to the chase. We leave the stop light, we both are in 1st gear just going easy. Then the guys punches it. I figure hell why not. So I match his V8 grunt was I-6 scream. I pasted him and well were full throttle until the next traffic light. Between the two lights are about a 1/4 mile. i had him by 4-5 car lengths after hitting 2nd gear. It was great, I don't street race all the time but he wanted some. So I gave him more than his camaro could handle. Yes the camaro had a manual trans. I highly doubt that it was stock. No bad for an engine that has two less cylinders and is less than half the size. Yes I now my eninge has more technology, but I was suprised how well it did. Against that car IN A STRAIGHT LINE.[bmwdance] [fake] [burnout]

I too, am very surprised that you pulled a manual 396 first gen Camaro by 4-5 car lengths by second gear, especially since the first gear in an M3 is so short. [confused]

If the Camaro really did have a 396, he would have had a sizeable power advantage and definitely would have had a sizeable torque advantage. Weight should be fairly close to even between the two; if his had a big block, he probably weighed a little more. Did he suffer from excessive wheelspin off the line? Big block first gen Camaros are very difficult to launch without excessive wheelspin without some suspension work. Hell, my little 350ci small block '67 is damn hard to launch without excessive wheelspin.

I'd like to see a rematch.
