Ahh.... very nice. My CAI isn't really one at all. Ford's design was actually a cold air intake (it takes air in from the fender). I put put a K&N in the stock airbox and went.

I saw CAI and immediatley thought of the hor air intakes people make by themselves.... you know... drawing in hot air from the engine bay[rolleyes]

Good job on yours![thumb]

Ahh, yes the HAI.....

I have to say, I don't understand [?|] why folks draw Hot Air from the engine compartment. Mine is outside the compartment just behind the bumper and draws Cold Air from the lower grill opening.

looks very nice. have you noticed any real gains with this installed? how much louder is your engine now on a scale of 1-10 (1=stock 10=obnoxious)?[thumb]

[:)] Thanks! I have noticed a bit more punch at the lower revs, and sound of the air draw is audible, but not from inside the cabin. It does produce a high pitched turbine sound that is not obnoxious, a 4 on scale of 1-10.

Good question and you make a valid point, believe it or not, those "short" cold air intakes still do the job just fine, as long as you have a heat shield. It is a stupid piece of metal that wraps around the air intake and you would think it does absolutely nothing. But I used to have a 2.0 Jetta with an aftermarket air intake setup and after installing the air intake, I noticed that the car pulled harder at all rpm's, whether it was hot or cold outside. I am guessing that the heat shield really did its job of keeping out all the really hot air, but I would really only recommend getting those true cold air intakes that suck in air from the lower front spoiler/bumper. There is no question that fresh air from outside the car is the best air. [:)]

[;)]bahnstormer - the filter is located in the cavity just in front of the wheel in the lower nose side section. The lower front section of the wheel well liner would have to be removed to expose it. The CAI tube passes through the air hole left from the OEM hosing and the filter is connected outside the engine compartment space at that point. [;)]

HEY!!!! I have been trying to find someone who has done exactly what you did.....now can you write a parts list and let me know how to exactly get the tubing and filter in that region???
That would make my Christmas!!! [thumb]

Ok you have a '00 528i. The available CAI's on the site for the 5series look nothing like what you have attached to your car. The one you have looks closer to the E36 CAI. Any reason for that????
