airlords: 04 530 i for 55 k it seems a bit high i supposed it's fully loaded, and where you are i guess that could be fair. i bought mine in december of last year i paid $49.5 k with 22 miles on it in california ,they were pushing all 04's out .as far the car i could not be happier it drives like a dream no problems after 9k miles one thing , all those extra options i rarely use . i drive takes a bit to get use to it ,but after you will enjoy....back to the price ,again it depends the country my brother in law in portugal priced a 530i around 65k euros thats close to 80k u.s. $ .. it a big difference ... good luck

55k canadian is crazy for a 2004 530i, especially since it's a first year model and has the 225hp previous generation engine in it...

44k (In U.S. dollars) is way too high for a 2 year old car with 11k miles on it. A loaded 530 is maybe 50-51k msrp, and with the incentives they put on them that car likely sold for 46k, so that means the car only depreciated $1,000 a year and it has the old engine in it...[hihi]

Reminds me of the guy who was trying to sell his M3 for a relative on here with 50k on the odometer for $44,000... (or was it 48, even worse) another joke.

Ok is anything wrong with the 04 engine or are there significant changes compared with the 05 engine. As for the price. its about the cheapest i have seen so far. But i am just looking on the internet for now hopefully i can get a better deal when i get there. So whats price should i be looking at (i know the lowest price is the best) as per reasonable cost.

Well the problem with prices is I am basing my ideas on the U.S. market, it is possible that in Canada the cars are just more expensive. Seems like the 5 series holds its value very well in Canada...

The 04 and 05 models got the 225hp/214 torque 3 ltr I6 from the previous generation, while the 06' models have the new 255hp/ 220 torque 3ltr (N52) I6 which debuted in the E90 3 series. According to BMW's website the power difference shaves about .5 second off the 0-60 time and the newer engines get better gas mileage.

I'd say in the U.S. a good price for an 04 (first model year) 5 series with the old engine would be 35-38k and thats if it is in stellar condition, has low mileage, and was a loaded model (50k+ MSRP).

There is one over here for $37,500 with 18k... I never said they had to be fully loaded with the sports package. Actually I buy them legitimately, only I'd rather not throw money in the trash for inflated priced used cars.

Acording to NADA a 2004 530i with no options and 22k on the clock is valued at 38900 to 43800. 55000 in Canada seems about right.
I think that's a little off, although it is November and the dealer is selling upgraded '06 models now. Maybe this spring 39k was the trade-in price (the higher figure is usually inflated as they count the cars as dealer CPO) on the previous year's model 530i. I don't think NADA is taking into account the option changes, and the incentives BMW placed on the cars to move them. It likely is last years figure. (I know I'm rushing 2006)

A 2006 530i nicely equipped comes out to 54k MSRP taking into account the 2004 was priced lower and lacked certain new options, I'd say that safely brings it down to 51k MSRP for a similar car to the one I priced on bmwusa... Now consider the 3-4k discount off MSRP in dealer incentive and whatnot. That brings us down to 46-47k for the "first model year 5-series". IMO it makes absolutely no sense to consider the car 1 year old since there is still 2 months left in 2005 (lets not be salesmen, this isn't a dealership) The car should be considered 2 years old with 20k on the odo... So according to NADA a 530i with no options, 45k msrp new, only depreciates roughly $2,000 after 2 years? [hihi] Seems like the 2004 530i was the greatest investment BMW ever...
