I have noticed a "loose metal" sound coming from underneath my car, usually after I engage/disengage the clutch while driving. However, the sound will also happen while I'm just driving sometimes too.

Any suggestions on how to diagnos this problem?

Is it like something is dragging on the ground, or more like a jingling noise? The jingling noise has happened to me - loose locking sleeve on the driveshaft spline. 10min fix.
Hey, it's more like a jingling noise. I'll have to look into the loose locking sleeve on the driveshaft spline. Of course, this is like Greek to me right now..but my new Bentley manual is in the mail. Do you think it will help me understand the lingo?

Thanks.

Check for loose heat shielding, if it's not that, you have to remove the heatsheilding to access the driveshaft (hard to do with the exhaust in place, but possible - other wise undo the exhaust brackets at the rear of the car and lower it a little bit. (Just enough to get the shielding out and no more).

Then you'll see where the driveshaft is supported in the middle by the centre-hanger bearing. Just to the rear of the hanger is a sleeve that locks the two halves of the driveshaft together. This can come loose and then jingle as you describe.

It could be something else too of course so I'd have a good look for anything loose before doing the above.

I noticed a jingle today after answering your question and I know its not the lock sleeve as I recently tightened it with a new bush so even if it came loose it prob wouldn't jingle. If I find anything interesting I'll let you know.
