Well just when I think I'm making progress....when I put the car (325 86'), under a little stress I hear and feel a stong vibration like a clunking sound...I thought that this was the flex disk so I bought a new one. When I whent out this morning to find out where the flex disk is on the car I ramped up the rear end. Didn't find it back there but as I checked everything in the back I noticed alot of play in the drives side axel where it conects to the diferential.
Should the axle have this play or could this be the problem??

Clunk under torque is definately drive train somewhere - and probably rear of the gearbox - so check flex disc (as m42cab said it bolts to the 'box output flange. Then work your way back - centre hanger bearing may be loose or worn, otherwise its your diff or CV's.
