I am 27 and i just got my license (last month) and yes, i am going to get a BMW (325CI Coupe) year 2000. just about everyone tell me is stupid for me to fork over so much cash for a used car when i might get into an accident (wow! they sure believe in me!!).

they tell me i should buy a HONDA!!!! oh wait, it gets better: MITSUBISHI???? and TOYOTA? are these people serious? i mean, is already bad enough i have to buy a BMW automatic.

i have loved BMWs all my life, cant conceive driving anything else. i am even going to take the BMW class for women drivers.... so i can be less of a hazard!

do you guys think a BMW is not a good choice for me? for safety reasons i decided not to get the convertible and opt for a coupe.

should i listen to these people who obviously dont know what love is? [bmwkick]

If you can afford it, BMW is one of the best and safest car you can get. Trust your gut and don't let anyone sway you from owning the car you love.

I would say buy what you like. Honda and Toyota are respectable products with good value for the money, and by adding optional side airbags they are safe. But if you don’t like a car I think you will be sorry if you buy it.

Get what you like and fits your budget. I say a person should buy what they like and will enjoy the most and is not financial challenging.

I agree with Tom, trust your intuition. People say get a certain kind of car because of how they feel about driving. IMO it’s one of the few types of cars that actually can change a person’s mood once you sit inside and close the door. Regardless of how good or bad a day is… it always gets better when I find myself behind the wheel of my BMW. If you have to explain it to people they will never understand.

Mitsubishi?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! I can understand the Honda or Toyota. Super reliable and get great crash test results. But the Mitsubishi? Over a BMW?

i just bought myself a 2001 325i and i did not have doubt to spend the money. the car i had before was a 98 323 with 60kmiles and more. it never let me down. now, at the age of 7 years i sold it to get a car 3 years old. i will drive her 4 years and i bet, i will not have problems again.

bmw usually is pretty reliable and a very good car. sure, you can get a lemon everywhere, but in general a bimmer is a top choice.

nothing wrong with hondas and toyotas. at least not with all of them a nice S2000 is really fun and i would take a corolla over a focus any day! okay okay, a focus ain´t no bimmer, but still not from japan.

The worst is that my boss (boss at my clients site anyway) thinks that I should have bought a Hyundai He owns a SantaFe and a Sonata and thinks that they are the best cars around. Well, if he likes 'em, all the more power to him - I'm not touching a Hyundai regardless of what kind of consumer ratings the have been getting - boring!


You will really enjoy your BMW. I'm a firm believer in getting the car that you want. You'll be a lot happier that way. Before I first got married, we were building a house but I cracked the head in my Beretta and we decided that it just wasn't worth fixing it so we bought a new car. I really pushed for the BMW then but she couldn't see spending that much on a new car either (she was still in the BMW cars cost more than SUV's mode). So I settled on Grand Am and hated every time that I had to climb in that car (especially once it started leaking oil all over my garage). It was such a POS.

When we started looking at new cars again, I talked her into going to the BMW dealership just to look at cars with me and she fell in love with the BMW's. I still had to settle for an automatic since she can't drive a stick, but at least we both love the car.

yeah, i mean, i have nothing against honda and such but gosh they sure are ugly!! i figure, is now or when? my worst fear is that i will get another car and hate it, hate it, hate it!!!!
people think that only men are supposed to fall inlove with their cars
, but women are the same way. at least i am.

i say F them all i am getting my car, and when i do, i will most likely see everyone who told me not to get it, asking me for a ride!!!!

there's a sensible solution, read: Homer: "boooring!!" or following your gut feeling. i had my doubts about getting my car, w/ the price tag and all, but i dun mind skipping couple lunches now and then to have the chance to drive her around.

but i wouldnt' count anything out, just by the name or whatever. i'd test drive it, see how it feels then go from there. you maybe suprised.. or not

I understand the love. My first BMW was a '77 633CSi. I loved that car even though it let me down more times than I can remember. I guess that's what you call unconditional love.

My current baby, an '01 530i, treats me better than anyone except my wife.
