Grassroots Motorsports has a hands on performance review/comparison of the 3 generations of M3s. I saw this on the news stand at Barnes & Nobles. It's a very interesting article written primarily from a performance/racing viewpoint. Costs, ease of mods, etc. were all taken into consideration. The E36 seemed to be their favorite overall.
