M3/M Coupe Gearbox and shifter

Howdy. I really like the feel of a shift in the M Coupe. Does anyone know if you can simply convert all the shifter parts of a M Coupe to a E36 M3, or is it differences within the gearbox? Also I have never tried a 'short shift kit'. Is that a better way to go?

It should be theoretically possible to swap transmissions, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money and time. FYI, The E36 M3 uses a ZF 5-sp. transmission. What does the M Coupe use? If it's the same gearbox, then it should be a lot easier to swap them.
