I'm planning on buying an M3 with SMG this fall. Has anyone heard when the V8 M3 is going to be available here stateside? I'm also looking for people that have experienced problems with the SMG transmission, and the cost of labor to have the problem(s) fixed. Last but not least, has anyone seen a website with pics of what the M6 is going to look like, as well as a pricetag? Thanks.

The new M3 won't be here till fall of 2006 or spring of 2007 that's for sure... As for problems with the SMG transmission, there are very few if any... As for the cost of labor the SMG hasn't been around long enough to merit labor costs from the owner... You do realize you're getting a 4year 50,000 mile warranty on the car to cover all repairs, and thats if BMW doesn't extend their warranty even longer... If you really want an M3 I'd get a good deal on a 2005. BMWNA's website has plenty of M6 pictures www.bmwusa.com the pricetag is probably going to be around 80-90k considering the price of the current 6 series V8.

I don't think there is going to be a 2006 model year for the M3, but I'm not sure. I know the next-generation M3 should be out in the Summer of 2006 and will come standard with SMG transmission (no full manual available) and the 400hp V8 engine. The SMG transmission is supposed to last longer than a typical manual.

You've got a long wait ahead of you for the new E90 M3, thats why I picked up my E46 now, figured in 2 years the new M3 should just about be ready for consumption.

As for the M6, just go straight to the source:
BMW M6 (bmwusa.com)

Personally I wouldnt spend the bang on an M6 if it doesnt come with a hardtop droptop, and also Im not a fan of SMG only, but since you are shopping for SMG, this may be up your alley, although dont expect the price to be low.

Mid to late 2007 for the E90 M3..........that is what I was told from a dealer here in Germany. You can usually add about 2 months for a US release.
