Everything is possible but it will cost you as much as a half of the whole M5.

By the way, under your avatar you have you drive a a fully loaded RWD 528. Well the point is that BMW's are only rear wheel drive. Of course there are xi and ix but 528 has never been a FWD or AWD.

Except for the Mini. That is a first BMW's front wheel drive car[:)]

I did not convert the car to DOT because I don't usually have the car in US for a long time. If I bring it than just for few months. Mostly is stays in Germany. That is where I bought it. You can't realy buy it in the states. And I work around BMW's so I saved up money. But the price is not that bad for that kind of performance.

Beemer:

When you say ... "I don't usually have the car in US for a long time. If I bring it than just for few months. Mostly is stays in Germany." ... does that mean that You have been allowed to bring it into the USA (San Diego, CA.)?? For how long can you keep the car in let's say ... California without converting it? If that is the case ... What are special requirements for you to be able to bring a "Non-DOT Approved" car into California? I am thinking of doing something similar and I wanted to know what would my steps be.

Thanks much.

Shure no problem. Well I never realy did any paper work for that except when the car is going on the ship. I always say that Im on vacation and will be around 3 months but they dont ask anything about the car. And I don't know how long you can actually have the car here. In Europe we have technical controls every few years and if you would have a US car you'll have to covert the headlights, tail lights etc. But I think if you want to keep the car in US it wont be problem, because it will pass the smog test and maybe change the DOT Lightning so you have side reflectors, but than you can change it back and the police wont say anything. What kind of car are you are you trying to import?
