I have a couple of questions concerning the maintenance schedule for my 2001 BMW Z3 3.0 liter engine.
Ok I have had the car for about 11,000 miles and the yellow light came on so I took it in. It cost me $430.00 for the oil change and for them to check some stuff. That sure seems like a lot. [80?]
I could buy one of those fancy reset tools and do it myself. [???1] The guy said, they have to adjust the lifters or something. All this seems like a lot for a car with just over 25,000 miles.
Secondly, the told me the front brakes need to changed. Just not the brakes but also the rotors. [?|] That will cost about $650.00. Again, these seems pretty extreme for a car with only 25,000 miles.
I don’t drive hard and I usually down shift a lot (slowly). So I don’t understand why they are wearing out so fast. Is this normal?
Also, does anyone have a list of the “recommended” scheduled maint. for this car?

One last thing. You most likely will see this post BigDaddy, I live in King County also by Bellevue, do you have any recommendations for BMW repair around here? I really don’t trust the Factory BMW of Bellevue folks to much. [mad]

Thanks,

[:D]

i never figured out the "reset" thing for the maintenance light... i do my oil changes myself, i can't justify those costs for such a simple job.

your breaks should last 30-50k miles, and you have an indicator on your dash that should lite up when they need changing.

get used to the high costs at the dealer... it's all part of owning a bmw. [thumb]

i have 88k+ on my original brakes. i also remember someone on here posting that they let the dealer put brakes on at like 12k? the service schedules aren't a real bad deal for someone who doesn't want to work on the car themselves, they change brake fluid and all kinds of adjustments. just watch out for the brake scam.

Ok, so there is some special wear sensor for the brakes. I have all the parts to replace the brakes and can just wait until the light goes off than replace them. The question is, do I have to have the BMW factory reset these brake wear light? Or will it go away when I put on the new pads?

if your dash light came on you will need a new sensor for sure, they are comparatively cheap. i think the light will go off by itself?

I had the same check engine problem... The Akron, Ohio dealership said I would need a complete tune up at a cost of $830!!! I change my own oil and went to a Cleveland dealership and had the light re-set for $18.
