Mass Airflow Problem?

Recently I added a new cone filter to my 1989 325iS. I thought it was going to be the easiest upgrade yet. But theres a problem, under full throttle, in 2nd and 3rd gear (so far) the car kind of cuts out, but it doesnt happen everytime. It only occurs around 5k rpm's and i havent tryed to push through it, i always release the gas when it happends. Any thoughts on what it could be? Or what i could check?

Vacuume leak.
Hope you have a heat shield around the cone filter. If you don't the car WILL be slower and less powerful than with the stock airbox.

it maybe less powerfull at idle but at say 60 or accerating it should be the same if not better because there will be air flowing threw the engine compartment
