My 318 is dead. R.I.P

Well all good things come to an end and my 318i has just about died , so i went out and bought a 316i (1990) today [bmwdance] , the interior has a few additions that I cant work out. I have wot looks like a fog light symbol next to a rotating dial, any ideas wot this is for, also every now and then I hear a ping as if hearing the 'please fasten your seatbelts' ping on an aircraft, any ideas on wot this is also would be cool..

pretty much wot I always do , Black with Black, But not slamming it this time, lost to may sumps on the last one (4 in fact) .Will sort some pics out when I get it looking a bit better.
