My 84 528e won't tart

My car tries to run if I hold the key over but once I let it go, it cuts out. I just changed the intank fuel pump with a used one. Do I need a new intank fuel pump? Someone said it could be the ignition switch but that doesn't sound right to me. Lastly, could it be the main fuel pump or even the fuel regulator?

it wouldnt be a problem with the starter because it sounds like its working( the engine is turning over) most likly it sounds like a problem with the fuel, maybe a pump is out, or a fuse :\
