mystery silver box

1987 325e , in the trunk i see a silver box mounted on the deck between the two speakers , it is approx 3" wide by 10" long and maybe 2" high . it appears to be some type of electronic component with a grey cable type wire coming from but not connected to anything. anyone know what it is , and what it connects to?? i have no clue. thank you

Its just an amplifier... I found mine under the dashboard on my 86 325e... I don't think it was hooked up... but my stereo was all aftermarket. I don't know why yours is in your trunk... if it's not connected, just throw it out.
