need help NOW!!!

my car won't start. it sat for a few days and so i had to jump it today with a jump box. i jumped it but when i touched the jump box + to the battery + i heard a pop that sounded like it came from my fuel pump possiably. the car started and ran for a few mins and then i drove it to the end of my parking lot (maybe 50ft.) and stopped to turn around and it died and wouldn't start again even when jumped. i need this to start tonight cause it has to get me to work tomorrow so any help would be great. what else could it be if not the fuel pump. i know i need to go listen to see if the pump turns on or not. thanks. The fuel pump is in the gas tank, I do not believe it was the fuel pump. Maybe a fuel pump relay, or a fuse have you checked those? Always hook up the gorund first.

Well lets check what needs to be there for a car to start:
Proper timing
Spark
Fuel
Air

If you suspect fuel listen for the pump to prime. It should make some noise. If not then you may have blown a fuse or your pump is dead. Checking fuel pressure would also be good.

Ensure you have a good spark too

what are the details on ure car? mileage, maintenance (timing belt, oil changes, recent repairs, etc). how old is the battery? did it show any signs of struggle befire it died (the first time). gimme all you can.

okay i got it started this morning i had to jump it but it started after a while. it ran kind of rough and everytime my radio put out any kind of bass or if i turned on the heat or anything the lights dimmed (didn't do this before). i drove it to work (1.5hrs). and then had to run out to a store and it started fine and then after work it started fine and i drove all the way home just fine. i think my alternator may be going bad. i will have it checked tomorrow and let you know what i find out. thanks for the help. later
