Nothing fancy, I need to replace my old OEM cass/radio. I want the new unit blend in to the style of E30 - black with red indicator light. Does anyone have suggestions? TIA.

Theres quite a few aftermarket cd players out there now that will match the color of your dash lights. Kenwood has ones that you can choose like 250 different color patters. They change the text and background colors.

www.crutchfield.com has a lot of cd players but they have high prices. Good website to reference though, they have LOTS of specs on units. I was looking at one of those Kenwood Excelon cd/mp3 players. Just like you I want it to match colors too. Have fun

Most major audio brands now have models with selectable colours to match yuor dash lights. Buy anything of known brand that you like the look of - I've seen dozens of ideas on what cd unit is in-keeping of the e30 dash and all of them different, so really it is up to you.

Buy a reputable brand and slightly above basic spec and you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the inputs. This task is actually more difficult than I expected. I guess the taste and style has changed since the 80's. It is hard to find a CD/reciever with black body with amber mono color.

I found a few that can change the background color but they also have a lot chrom and multiple color scheme. The closest on found is a Sony unit GT 400

Still looking but will give up soon. :)

I would reccomend a few of the Clarion units - My friend has one in in his e36 and it matches the dash almost as good as the stock unit. I have a nice alpine but it doesn't match. The only bad thing about the e30 is the steering wheel covers up most of the head unit.

Clarion rocks !

Clarion without amber backlight, but black face

Clarion with optional red/amber backlight but some brushed Al.

JVC KD-G115

JVC KD-G126

JVC KD-S871

Panasonic CQC1001W

Pioneer DEH-3730MP

There's a very quick selection - there are heaps of models out there that work.

I have a JVC which I'm about to upgrade - it is alomost all screen and the screen is glossy black where it isn't lit - the rest of the unit is tasteful metallic grey or black - newer than the sdash, but it works.

Thanks Echo30. YOu are Da Man.

I like this one the best.

Panasonic CQC1001W

It is apparent that NZ and UK have different model than in the States. I need to search the closeout model outlet to find this unit.

I also like this one too: Pioneer DEH-3730MP

Pioneer PEH3500 is what I used and it's been total satisfaction. It seems to adapt to the built-in amp and speakers the best without additions. It still gives powerful bass and clear highs...not too expensive - $175-full price.
