About 5 weeks ago I bought a the new 2004 530i and I have some issues with the iDrive and the radio. At times my radio sounds like I am getting a bad reception. I put my radio on CD and its still the case. This happens time to time and everytime I take it to the dealer of course the radio is fine. One day I took it to the dealer and they heard what I was hearing, thank god, they now know I am not BS'ing them. They do not know what is causing this problem and they told me they have a call in with BMW in Germany. Waiting for them to get back to them. This has been 3 weeks ago. No new news. On a different note, my iDrive screen at times do not come on. I can work the radio but the screen do not come on. It is almost like, when the outside temperature drops below 35 degrees, it does not want to come on. I also told the dealer about this and thankfully, they were already aware of this issue and they are waiting for the new parts to come in. I guess my question to the board is, does anyone here have the same issues with their new 5 and is it resolved? Thanks in advance for your response.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your new 530, I have been trying to get as much feed back as possible from new 5 series owners. I have a 2002 330i, which has been a really fun, reliable car to own. The radio however made me crazy, only on am stations I had reception with a rattling sound like blown speaker. I was told that nothing was wrong by my dealer, or these stations are to far away but, after two years of complaining, my dealer changed the radio and its perfect. BMW never contacted me to say bring your car in we have a fix, I had to keep asking. Good luck. How does your car drive?

jochet, The dealer is aware of the issue now since they hear it first hand. They have the fix and they ordered the parts. I am waiting for the parts to come in. As far as the iDrive screen, they are also aware of the issue and they are going to fix the two at once when I bring it in next week hopefully. The drive is great. I love the car outside of this little petty problems but since its the new model its expected I guess. As long as they have the fix for it I am OK. Let me tell you about the drive, I have never droven a car with such handling. I can take interstate ramps and corners with little to no efforts. All four wheels stays on the road when I make tight corners. I would recommend the sport package. It really makes the difference. It has the active steering and the active roll stable system. At lease thats what I think they are calling it. Dont remember for sure but believe me, you will be happy you got the package. Its worth the extra 3k. I look at it like this. BMW is a car or drivers so why not get the extra to make the driving more enjoyable.

Yep, not getting the sport package would be a mistake IMO. It still has a very smooth ride and it is difficult to describe how sharp the handling is without driving one.

Want to give all heads up that they are going to have a re-call for their 5 series soon. My dealer told me when I took my car in for the i-Drive screen problem and radio, that they are also going to re-program all 40 plus. Depending on when you bought the car they will have the re-call. I bought my car like the first 10 days after my dealer received them so I was one of the first to get one. Just a heads up..
