[pray] Where can I get one?

After working at a BMW dealership for about a month now, the E90 definitely looks best in black, with silver a very close second. Ofcourse, it needs to have the sport package!

The black with sport package just looks so menacing... [bmwdance]

Looks great, but sporty cars + diesel just doesn't work. They get good gas mileage, but not better than a hybrid. They run dirty compared to gas (although they are way better than older diesels) and no fun driving a car that only revs to 4,000rpm.

Actually you are wrong on most of your statements. With the new particle filters that BMW and MBZ are now using, new direct injection diesels are as clean, or cleaner than most cars (especially cars from our Big 3).

In comparing mpg with Hybrids, Diesels generally yield an overall greater combined city & highway mpg than Hybrids.

Yes, tradt'l. "old" Diesels only reved to about 4,000rpm, but the new ones, especially tuned by Alpina will offer a higher rev. Alpina would have it no other way.

A picture of the Instrument cluster. This oil burner will def. rev past 4000rpm:

Looks pretty hot. Of course, I love Alpina :) Makes the E90 look really, really good.
You know I am ALWAYS with you on that Adam. Alpina's are the cream of the crop right next to the ///M series. You can never go wrong with an Alpina no matter if it is gas or diesel powered. That isn't even considering the resale value if one if one ever thought of getting rid of such a fine piece of machinery. I love the look and the E90 looks fabulous in blue (just a little biased there though). Man that car looks great....

"The BMW Alpina D3 is based on the E90 320d, and offers 200bhp with maximum torque of 302lb-ft at 4,000rpm. That compares to 163bhp and 250lb-ft for the unaltered 320d."

Mercedes' E320 CDI, for example, does not meet emissions requirements for CA, NY, VT, and Maine. New diesels produce less greenhouse gases, but overall emissions are still higher.

As for hybrid vs diesel gas mileage, that's quite a statement to make considering you can't find any one car in both hybrid and diesel form to make an accurate comparison. What we do know is that the Toyota Prius gets 60mpg city and I do not know of any diesel vehicle sold in the US that can match that figure.

That's great for Alpina, but this car isn't even out yet. Diesel engines do not rev much over 4,000rpm and it's the torque of the diesel engine that gets these cars moving, as opposed to horsepower. The fun of sporty driving comes from keeping the vehicle in high revs...4K is where most diesels stop but that's when most performance gasoline engines are just getting started.

OMG that thing looks so hot. I love those wheels too.

While I do agree with you, Adam, that the new breed of diesels have come along in leaps and bounds, I have to admit that they're no match for the top-end zing of a petrol engine...

For sure though, they have been showing that diesels - point to point on twisty roads - can seriously challenge (and beat) petrol engines because of their massive thrust which stems from the huge torque figures on tap.

And I'm sure they will only get better and better. Great post, yet again bro. [thumb]

At the bottom, it states:

Yeah you see this really irritates me. How come a Ford F350 Diesel V8 can be sold all over the USA but a Merc E320 diesel can't? That just reeks of hypocrisy. Don't you agree?

Thank You Pete. I have been writing Senators and Legislators for YEARS about this. In all 50 states, we can buy Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, International, etc, etc unregulated Monster Diesels, but a clean burning BMW or Benz Diesel that can travel 700+ miles per tank, and are so much cleaner than even some new American cars or SUVS are NOT allowed. It is pure hypocrisy. It is (no offense to any of our Republicans) pure BUSH Big business.

Yeah I hate to say it but this sort of hypocrisy is what makes people hate your great country. This type of pork-barrel legislation extends to their foreign policy platforms and is one reason why people become so irritated.

This is just a microcosm of the whole broader problem. I mean, you're right, a Chevy diesel is nowhere near as efficient as some of those german diesels. And while we're at it, why the bloody hell do you guys have to have a 333BHP M3 just because of "emissions regs"? Absolute tosh.

I highly doubt it is "Bush big business" considering it is only banned in five states. The President does not write legislation and a Federal law would not limit a ban to five mostly deomcrat states! Sounds more to me like enviromental interests that are behind the bans.

This law has nothing to do with President Bush. The emissions requirements have been around for years. Commercial and American vehicles do not have to follow emissions laws, it is just a way to boost profit for American car companies.

Big D said it right, they are environmental-related issues, it's not about hipocrasy.

Chesty, we like the 333hp M3 because the E36 M3 was only 240hp. We're definitely not complaining. [:)]
