HP has licensed and is now building/shipping an iPod compatible device. Interesting marketing move by Apple, who typically doesn't license their technology. They are betting that it will bring more "I HATE APPLE" buyers to the iPod standard by putting the HP name on it.

ALso HP is really branching out into Consumer Electronics - TVs, home theater, etc. Read below:

"The price will be $299 for the 20-gigabyte model, or $399 for the 40-gigabyte model, matching Apple's current prices. The players will be available in early September -- the same month HP will release about two dozen other new consumer products, including a 42-inch plasma television and an all-in-one home theater projector, which were also announced Friday. The efforts are part of HP's expanding strategy to become a household, rather than just an office, name by capitalizing on what they say is a reputation for quality products."

It looks exactly the same as the iPod. I don't think this is going to convince any of the Apple haters to purchase it. Plus, lots of Apple hates have iPods already anyways. The iPod is like a Porsche. There is no substitute.
