177000 miles and not a single problem.....except for a seized hand brake, extremely loose linkage. but the engine, which leaks power steering, oil, and other fluids runs perfectly. my diff fluid leaks too. but in a month or two this car will be in perfect condition. any other ix owners here??

Ix's are so sweet!!
could you please do me a favour and take a photo of the under front side of your 325ix?
but only if it has no sump guard.
I have never seen the front diff setup in real life.
Cheers and welcome!

Nice looking car - interestignside skirts/guard flares - never seen them before. Look not too bad at all. Edit: I never see these before, then in one day I see these ones and a set for sale. Turns out they are an ix extra. cool.

I too have never actually seen an IX in person - don't think many were imported over here. Great cars - I jus wish they were built stronger so you could put FI power down - that would be cool - quattro eater.

ill try and take that pic tomorrow when it stops raining. it was repainted about a year ago by previous owner, unfortunately not original bmw paint, but it looks great. fixed the diff leak. it only drips a little bit of power steering and oil. theirs alot, well not a real lot, but quite a few ixs in new england and colorado area. although this is the only e30 ix ive ever seen. one online in virginia sold for 8 grand. got mine for 4. great deal. couldnt be happier with this car. getting hand brake fixed next week and ive learned to live with the loose linkage, so its in great condition

Forced Induction - ie turbo/supercharged. The all wheel drive would give you the traction to put it to the ground. Unfortunately the guys who have run turbo ix's all complain about it not being strong enough to cope with the power.

Don't bother with CAI (Cold Air Intake) Just buy a decent panel filter to fit in the factory housing. BMW did a relatively good job with the air intake. If you do want a pod filter, then make sure it is a proper CAI with heat sheilding and proper ducting.

There are not many power mods you can do to the m20 without getting serious and spending good coin.

Better to just get it running nice and do all the usual maintenance things incl. cambelt etc.

A lumpy cam can make a small noticeable difference, and some swear by chipping the ecu.

The fastest N/A (Naturally Aspirated) m20's I've ridden in have been strokers with lumpy cams and aftermarket computers like MOTEC and LINK, and uprated fuel delivery.

Anything faster has had a motor swap or is turbo.

They are using a decent filter (k&N) but not sure whether the cost is justified. K&N pod with adapter to fit m20 AFM, and then a heat sheild properly mounted with ducting would be just as good.

This is the proper way to do it:

Adjust the valves, replace timing belt/water pump, do shaft seals change all the fluids and repair that power steering rack so she don't leak no more, and you (and your 325iX) will be laughing.

Awaiting the front end picture! [clap]

Cheers mate.

Wow that thing was leaking like a screen door! Have you got the diff leaks stopped? Don't put any synthetic oil in there until you do. Where was it leaking from, the axle shafts or the driveline yoke?

its been leaking oil and power steering which drips down to the front diff, because of the plastic guard. i use conventional oil now and im in the process of fixing up the leaks. the rear diff leak i got fixed up.
