Hello you all.

I had my 325i for 2 months now and would like to ask few questions. I followed this forum for little while and I see that you guys have alot of expertise. I never cared much for BMW since I always prefered SUV for my driving needs. I got this car as solution to long distance commuting 116 miles one way. It is in very good conditions as far as engine performace goes but had some items that needed to be replaced. I got new top for it and also changed leather on back seats. I covered front seats with sheep skin covers for now. After driving it I really like the car and the way it drives. I see what I was missing. There are some electrical issues that I will have to solve some way and that is something I would like to ask you expertss about. My rev indicator is not working. I checked all fuses in the box under the hood and all of them are good. Is there anything else I should check? Also even that I am reading 12 volts on interior dome light fixture I can not get light to work. I replaced boulb, cleaned contacts but no luck. There is ocasionaly some poping noise comming from what I believe is cruise controll trottle control unit located on left front fender under the hood. It usualy stops if I engage brake or clutch. After little while it stops. I am not using cruise control since transmision is manual and I don't thing it even works. How can I disable it? Engine is 6 cylinder, with manual transmision. It has 146 000 miles and it is not using any oil. How many more miles can I expect to get from it? I replace oil and filter reliegiously after less than 3000 miles. I would like to find good source for quality rebuilt engine. I would appreciate your advice for good and reliable source for engine. I saw some on net and there are few options as performance type engines atc. It is worth to go for performance type engine or it is just gimmick? Thank you in advance for your advice.

You could just disconnect the cruise control cable from the throttle body. 146,000 miles is young for these cars, especially if you're not going through more than a quart of oil between changes. No reason to rebuild the engine - these engines WILL run forever if you run it in a favorable way, which it sounds like you will. My e30 had 165k miles when I bought it, I beat the piss out of it and when it was wrecked (thanks to an audi who turned in front of me), it had 182k miles and ran BETTER than when I first bought it because of the little maintainence items I performed (like valve adjustments and just little things.) 16 years old, and everything was original down to the valve guides and head gasket. Even the clutch was the original clutch, which I replaced at a little over 176,000 miles - and not because the clutch disc was bad (had about 20% left!), but because the throwout bearing was bad.

I think your tach isn't working because the instrument cluster has some bad gears, the OBC (clock, thermometer, average mpg, etc.) could be gad too. I'm too tired to look for any kind of article on it now but I'm sure it's a pretty easy fix. It does sound like you have a bad fuse somewhere
