Hello..
I have just got a nice 1989 325i and it looks amazing. The only thing is, that it runs like a horse. As soon as you get in it and turn it on it starts jumping around. The Service engine lght comes on and stays on. The I cant read any of the Rpm's cause the needle wont move. And it has no radio. It idles very rough, it feels like it going to lunge foward and then it stops. I myself own a american car and i am knowledgeable on what can be done to my car. Now i got a Nice looking 89 bmw and i have NO CLUE as what can be done to it to improve, 1. suspension- Braking, 2. horsepower, 3. appearance. I assume that there are alot of options for me out there to explore. If anybody can give me links to where i can purchase certain parts that i am going to need please do. Any pics of other bmw of the same year would be nice also. I do plan on spending a good amount of money ( about 2-3 g's)in this car. I plan on making this car go fast and look semi-stock. A full engine swap and trany swap is not out of the question. Thanks in advance.

Thats a nice pic but i was looking for more of a 89 ish bmw.

so are you saying i can drop a 2.0 turbo in my 89? But it has a 6 in it? would it be better if i just added a turbo to another bigger engine that will fit my 89? will the m30 engine fit in the 89?

If you want to do an engine swap, put the 3.2L S52 from the euro E36 M3 in it. It has 321hp![fake]
aight that sounds good to me, then i wil really be crusing[driving] [burnout]

how do i go about finding such a engine? any one on here ever done it?
if ya can give me a lil more info on it i would gladly apreciate it thanx[thumb]

E36 m3 started in 91 right? would it be difficult to swap the engines?

Edit: thanxs

Hey man, I used to have an M52 3.2lt M3 motor in my car, but I cracked the block, it was running a Vortech vi supercharger and I upped the boost just a little too much. It isn't a bad option, but remember the performance isn't that great for the hp it puts out, just because it is very heavy and it messes with the balance of the car a bit. I would go withthe setup that I am running now. Find yourself a 325is Evo2 motor (2.7lt) and bore it and stroke it so that it is 2.9lt motor, then attach a T3/T4 hybrid turbo. But you are gonna have to get stronger and forged bits for the internals of your engine, and lower the commpreession. Then to get the most out of your cars performance, you gotta try and lighten the car, try aluminium or carbon fibre body panels, lighter rims, lightweight kit, aluminium or carbonfibre mounts (engine gearbox, etc..), get a chip when you do the engine and get somebody to map it for the engine on a dyno. I find that my car is quicker now with my 2.9lt Turbo, and a lot more fun to drive, because it is lighter with the 325is enigne. but at the moment my only project is to paint the silver trim around the windows black.

Yeah, I think it was unique to SA, cause we didn't get the M3 but any of the 325i / is motors can be bored out to about 2.8 sometimes all the way to 3.0lt, it just depends on the specific engine. The only time I would upgrade the brakes are if you are going to do auto cross or some track but otherwise the brakes are good, I would upgrade to braided lines though it looks good and helps with brake fade. I think upgrading the suspension is a must, because it helps with Hp, cause if your shocks compress quickly under hard accelloration that is good, but if they rebound quickly that is bad, because you will lose traxion and get wheelspin. If you still want to go with the M3 eninge, I would recommend the M Coupe motor, because it is Aluminium, or so I have heard.

I know a guy that put a m52 motor in his 94 5er. He put a vortech supercharger on top of that from Dinan. The guy that did this was the owner of Auto Sport Weks out here in Colorado. Give those guys a call, they will do just about anything to a BMW given a fat budget.
