newbie question..upper rad hose hot, lower hose cold..

I have a 94 5251 auto. Upper radiator hose feels very hot and lower hose feels cool. Is this normal? Temp gauge is normal range. Don't notice any problem driving the car. Thanks

WIle I have not specifically seen this on a 5 series, I have seen this on many cars, BMW and others. It's normal, your cooling system is working well!

Your are checking this at idle, where there is little heat generated. Remember that the system is designed to disipate ALOT of heat at high RPM, under load, in the summer, so it's very efficient at idle.

Heh I noticed the same thing on my friends e36 325i. I was thinking damn I hope it's bled correctly. Really amazing how efficient it is. My 535i doesnt cool down that well! But it's hard to cool down an iron furnace.
