Friend of mine just purchased a 1989 325i and is wondering what namebrand of muffler can he install on his BMW so that it has a nice rich growling sound. His muffler is an OEM, it has a nice sound but he wants something more.

Also, if anyone knows of a great place to purchase parts here in Canada please let us know.

I used to have an Ansa high flow muffler, and while it sounded pretty tame in idle and low revs, it sounded pretty nice at around 3000 RPM. I think they are pretty cheap too (like 200 dollars including the mounting materials) and looks better than the coffee can mufflers IMO.

I recommend a Dinan exhaust, expensive but in my opinion worth it. Stainless Steel inside and out, built exactly to fit. Increases HP by breathing better, then I would install a CAI if one was not already there.

Thanks for the help guys! Ill pass all this information on to my friend. Im sure he will find it helpful, but im sure he is putting off his plans on purchasing a muffler with the repairs he just found out he has to do on his car. The rear differencial is leaking and he has to fix that (I was told that this is a weakness of the E30`s), and im sure it will cost him a pretty penny. Gas tank also has a leak somewhere and the heat sheald that is near the exhaust manifold is missing and soon he will be cooking and melting his spark plug wires! [thumbd]

I was looking into purchasing a BMW myself after riding in his car, but after thinking about it and thinking how much it would cost to repaire a E36 I think I will stick with american cars, just because they are more popular with the mechanics and alot cheaper to fix, even though the cars themselves are cheaper also.

Many thanks!.......Merci Beacoup

Ireland Engineering has an all stainless steel muffler for $390 US.

I like BMWs because they are easy to fix, easy to maintain and very reliable. They may be a little more expensive to repair but if it doesn't break as much you make out in the end. Plus you get a great car to drive as well.
