Does it go straight to high idle or does it not go to high idle. you have two different lines. The vehicle is designed to go to warm up idle when first started and if the vehicle is already warm it should go back down rather quickly. if it is cold it should hang at high idle for a while. I'm not sure what you are asking though but this should help.

sorry about that......the problem is that the car does not have a high idle at cold startup. it should have a high idle to warm up and then settle down but it doesnt.
any thoughts?

What is the year and model of your vehicle. I have never really heard of this problem, not saying that it isn't happening i have just never seen it.

never mind that was kind of a dumb question right (considering your screen name)
I am not really familiar with the older vehicles man sorry. I think there is however an idle control module on this vehicle. That could be the problem.
I'm sure one of the older guys can help you.
