Is it possible to obtain the information from the dealer even if I purchased the vechile from a private owner? Information such as type of work performed on the car (maintenance/miles, etc.)
I went the bmw owner circle and sent an email, however never heard anything back from anyone at their end.

I believe that any BMW dealer can pull up the records of any car that was serviced at any BMW Center in the US and see the service history.

yes, you can request that they print out the serivce history for you. it should show what options came with the car from factory, what type of warranty and maintenance plan (BMW ones) are on the car, and what the service history is. It's good to know exactly which day is your last day of warranty and maintenance plan. However, the service history is "coded" so you might not know exactly what all the codes are. Codes ending in "MP" usually indicate a service was done under maintenance plan. If you're nice to your service advisor at the BMW dealer, he/she may be kind enough to tell you what the codes mean (oil service, coolant, brake ,etc.)

Unless it's changed in the last 2 years, only the servicing dealer will be able to pull up service records.
Actually thats what the dealership tells me. If the vehicle was serviced at their dealership, only then they will be able to pull the service records.

Call BMW NA. Give them the VIN. If it's been serviced at a BMW dealer the can tell you the history, options, etc. over the phone. Very nice people...

No, all service records of BMWs are maintained by BMW's database. BMW dealerships have access to that database at their service department. If you walk into a BMW service center and talk to a nice service advisor, given your VIN number it takes them 10 seconds to print out the service history. That service history will have all records of services performed as long as it was a BMW dealership. In fact, along with each service record is a "dealership ID" number so that each service can be traced back to see which dealership performed the service. I have such a print out for all my BMWs, even ones that I don't have serviced at the dealership because they are out of warranty. All they need is the VIN. If they tell you otherwise, the person just doesn't want to bother... talk to someone else or goto another dealer where they hire friendly, helpful people.

Hi. I am interested in knowing more about the service history on my 2001 330xi that I purchased last November 2006. Are you still able to provide this information?
If so these are the last seven alpha/digits of my car: JS93188. The 2 BMW dealers I approached stated that they were not able to provide confidential info despite my assurance that all I needed was the service recorn not the owners identifiable information.
Your information will be greatly appreciated.
