Aloha guys , My odometer and tripmeter seem to work off and on ? Is this a common problem ? I cant figure out how it would work one moment and not the next. Yeah it might help on keeping my mileage down for resale [:)] but I need to keep track of my mileage for business and I like to check my miles when filling up at the gas station. Any help is appreciated. mahalo

Do a search on odometer and speedometer. There have been some good threads in the last couple months regarding this issue. I'd do it but I'm not at home.

99% of speedo issues is the connector at Differential

Yep on the back of the differential is a two wire connector.

Clean it up with wd40 or a pencil eraser and use some petroleum grease to seal it.

It will be good for another 10 years.

Well, KC's fix will only work if the speedo stops working when the trip/odo stop working. When the trip/odo stop working, does the speedo still work? If it does, then it isn't the sending unit or wiring at the differential. It could be the odometer gears crapping out on you - I've had to replace one of the gears in my speedo. They don't last in the American climate - they get brittle and break. Some of the teeth may have broken off of one of the gears, and it gets hung up now and then. If that's the case, then the odometer will eventually quit altogether after the gear breaks.

If the odo/trip quits altogether, the gears are an easy fix.

Reflow the joints or buy a new speedo, I just bought a second cluster and took the speedo out and hooked the gears up to a drill to sync the odomter with my miles

From what I understand, bad solder joints don't typically show up as an intermittently working odometer - I've always heard that it affects gauge function - like the tach will stop working. If it's just the odometer gears, there is no need to replace the whole cluster or even the speedo. You can get the individual gears from www.odometergears.com for $29 each with shipping. I only needed one gear, so that was a lot cheaper than replacing the speedo or cluster (the dealer wanted $200 for just the speedo).

I replaced all my gears in my cluster. The OEM gears are made of rubber, and the factory uses some kind of lubercant on them, which makes the gears brittle after awhile. Especially with the heat in Hawaii. I also went with www.odometergears.com and his gears will last much much long. It's made out of some type of plastic/nylon material. No lubercante is needed. Cost me $90 for 4 gears including shipping. Excellent customer service.
